Auschwitz Jewish Centre, Oświęcim (Poland): Fall 2017 Programme


The Auschwitz Jewish Center (AJC), an affiliate of the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York, is a cultural and educational institution in Oświęcim (Auschwitz), Poland, offering year-round local educational programming and established international academic opportunities since 2000.

The Fall 2017 programme consists of a Programme for Students Abroad and a Familiarization Tour for Programme Directors.

Programme for Students Abroad
19 - 22 October 2017

A long-weekend programme in Kraków open to students of all backgrounds. The programme, which includes a scholarly visit to Oświęcim/Auschwitz, provides an academic environment through which participants engage intensively with the history of the Holocaust and Jewish life in Poland.

College and graduate students of all religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds and majors are eligible to apply. All programmes begin Thursday evening and end Sunday evening. Housing is available Sunday evening upon request. Need-based partial fee waivers are available for the $400 programme fee. Participants are responsible for arranging individual transportation to and from Kraków.

Familiarization Tour for Programme Directors

The programme is open to Programme Directors and staff in Europe, Israel, and the region and is designed to introduce participants to the experience and pedagogy of the AJC’s educational offerings, including the Programme for Students Abroad (see above), the for-credit summer programme, customized academic programmes, and funded summer fellowships.

The $550 program fee includes:
• All meals, including kosher Shabbat dinner with the Jewish community.
• Single-sex double occupancy rooms (single rooms available for a supplement).
• Transportation to all program excursions.
• Entrance fees at all museums, synagogues, and special sites.


Activities include tours of Jewish Kraków, plus the AJC and the Auschwitz- Birkenau Museum in Oświęcim. Participants will meet with the Jewish community in Kraków and staff at local institutions. The tour is led by American staff from the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York and Polish AJC staff.
